Hock Gee Ulu Yam Loh Mee, Setia Alam

So it was a Saturday and we decided to try out the famous Ulu Yam Loh Mee shop at Setia Alam. I have been recommended to come to this place ever since my bf first ate here. He shared that the loh mee is very delicious here and he appreciated the fact that the loh mee tasted that it has less "kan sui" (cantonese term for boric acid). So finally I have the opportunity to try it myself on this one fine saturday!

No photo of the facade, this is just another humble-looking restaurant but do not be fooled by its exterior. The mee served here is awesome!

These were what we ordered:

1. Loh Mee in a huge bowl
2. Hokkien Mee
3. Spring rolls
The Loh mee was very very good! The chef by default had added vinegar to the gravy itself, but if you need more to add to your tastebuds you can always add from the vinegar the provide on the table. After tasting one scoop, it was like no other loh mee I have tasted and personally I think it would be because they actually made the loh mee themselves and they really never added much boric acid to make the mee super chewy, unlike other noodle shops! Gravy-wise, it was thick and consistent, really flavousome! Nice nice.. must try!

The hokkien mee was good as well since they used the same mee :)

4. Thai coconut water :D
We ordered a coconut water drink to be shared. RM 5.50.. not expensive and worth it to quench your midday thirst!

5. Snake beans (Awesome!)
The snake beans tasted really nice mostly because of the way it was stir fried. Has that very great "wok" taste enhanced by the chilli and deep fried pork that comes together in the same dish. A must try too!

Close up of the delish loh mee

Spring roll.. so-so only

Hokkien mee as tasty!
This restaurant also serves good claypot yam noodle (or so I heard) but we did not have "enough stomachs" to down more noodles. Will come back for that the next time.
Price-wise.. totally reasonable. I cannot remember exactly but it came up to RM10 per person so total bill that day was about RM 22 or so.

Marmalade, Bangsar Village 2

It was a saturday morning and we were hunting for brunch!
Too hungry to venture too far so went to Marmalade at BV2.
Reached BV2 a bit too early as the place opens at 10am and we were there before 10am.

The interior as cosy as always!

These were the food and beverage we ordered:
1. Smoked salmon breakkie
2. Egg breakkie
3. Hot chocolate

Reading magazinesfrom the restaurant's magazine corner
while waiting for breakfast to be served..

The smoked salmon breakkie is my favourite order whenever I come to this place! I always vowed to try something new the next time I step into Marmalade, but I never succeeded in doing so because this is really good! It is served with eggs benedict with hollandaise sauce.. slurps. They finished the top with blanched spinach.. awesome wholesome taste :)

Smoked Salmon Brekkie. I think it is caleld Benny Breakkie.

This is S's breakfast. I love the succulent and juicy mushrooms!!!! Never get enough of those! Looks like a normal english breakfast from the photo, but the egg was really fluffy and tastes good too!

This was the hot chocolate we ordered.. very concentrated but I like it this way!

If you have not had brunch at Marmalade already, do make your way here a.s.a.p! Always loved this place for brunch!

Artisan at Section 13

Hi hi,

It was a Thursday when we got a wee bit tired of our usual lunch spots, so we decided to venture to Artisan Roast Coffee. It is just a few roads behind where I work, so no sweat locating the place with the help of my colleague M :)

To be honest, I am not a coffee aficianado, so I was just looking forward to their lunch menu.
These are all the meal I can remember:
1. Carbonara (approx RM10)
2. Aglio Olio (approx RM10)
3. Big breakfast set
4. Add sausage (approx rm3)
5. Add meatballs
6. Bottled juice (approx rm7)
7. Coffee and pastries

Carbonara was good! They serve in this fancy paper cup which was quite an interesting "concept". Looks small but the portion is actually quite sufficient.

The aglio olio (no photos) my colleagues ordered tasted very good too! Slightly spicy, but the taste was very unique and worth a try!

I heard the coffee here is good too so if you guys love coffee do make your way here.

Fugu, Damansara Jaya

Hello!

This post is "fresh from the oven" as I just dined at this restaurant last night!

The initial plan was to have a steamboat dinner at Two Pesos, SS2.. but! The moment we parked the car and walked to Two Pesos, there was already a long queue out of nowhere! And it was just around 6.15pm. Hmmm, will come earlier to try two pesos next time!

So, after much thought and after wasting much petrol, we decided to have japanese cuisine. So we settled with somewhere nearby.. Fugu at Damansara Jaya!

S had been here once with his colleague like 3 years ago (wow!) and he said the food here is fresh and recommended. No photo of the facade (sorry again!), but the following are what we ordered:

1. Udon in nice soup base
2. Smoked duck rice set
3. Hot Ocha (green tea)

S said the Udon tastes good, especially the soup!

His udon (RM18++)

Mine was a smoked duck with rice! Very very delicious! The smoked duck was appetising and I did not stop eating until I finished the whole bowl of rice.

The set comes with a miso soup, an appetiser, chawan mushi and fruits! The chawan mushi was really awesome, the dashi sauce was tastefully tuned so that it did not taste too overwhelming.

Smoked duck set (rm28)!!

Closer snapshot of the delicious smoked duck!

All in all...

Serai at Jaya Shopping Centre

Went to Serai on a weekday night with family.
Was tired from work but the day changed after having a very appetising and satisfying dinner at this malay-thai fusion restaurant!

Normally, most diners who come to Serai would order their infamous nasi kerabu and nasi lemak. I have tried those before (refer older posts). This time mother felt more adventurous and ordered dishes to go with rice. Ok, before I go into the dishes we ordered here are the beverages we ordered:Air Bandung and Sirap Selasih. Both drinks were equally good and not too sweet :)

Bandung Sirap (nice!)

Sirap Selasih (refreshing!)
Following are the dishes we ordered to go with rice: steamed lime siakap, ayam percik, and one stir fried kailan(no pic sorry).

The steamed lime siakap was very very good and highly recommended! A must-try! The soup/ gravy is sour with slight spiciness, making the dish very very appetising! Tastes similar to tomyum but with a less degree of spiciness and whatmore, the fish they served was very fresh as well!

Steam lime fish. Recommended!
The ayam percik tastes good too..

Ayam percik...
Apologise, no photo of the kailan because (it is just kailan) but it was cooked nicely like any good premium chinese restaurants would have served their vege..

OK, signing off now.
Night.

Valentino Rudy

Hi readers, trying to break the silence here.. found a photo of my white heels from my favourite brand~ Valentino Rudy!

Why I love this brand:

1. Super comfy- I do not purchase/ wear anything that requires me to compromise my comfort! Sure stillettos and killer heels will boost confidence but I would still stick to lower heels for the sake of maintaining comfort.

2. Style and design- Personally, I feel the design does flatter my feet so they may look good when you wear them too!

3. For all occasions- Formal office wear, shopping, meetings (except for sports of course).

OK, next round I'll be sure to post on food!

Pending posts: S.Wine, DuckKing, Salon Du Chocolat, Cinnamon coffee house at One World Hotel, Big Apple at Berjaya Times Square, breakfast at Coliseum, breakfast at Marmalade BV, and many more!

MM Cafe at Section 17

Dear readers,
It was a sunny saturday when we decided to drop by MM Cafe for our lunch. The restaurant had just done a face-lift and now the facade looks very pretty!
The newly renovated front of MM Cafe!

I cannot remember where we were prior to landing at Section 17 (Mandarin class, maybe?), but we were really thirsty and this vege apple juice was simply refreshing and quenched our thirst in no time! Check it out..

Apple+vege juice.. refreshing!

OK, this-is-a-MUST-ORDER!!!! The carbonara we ordered was so so so so nice that we would almost weep eating it (ok, exaggerating but it tasted really good!). The cream was not overpowering and we didn't get too bloated eating the entire plate of spaghetti! Instead, the creamy and delicious ham and button mushrooms were amazingly awesome that I ate non-stop to the extent my bf had to stop me so that I leave some for him to try ><

Super nice Carbonara!

My bf ordered this Kung Po Fried Rice. We did not expect it to taste all that good but surprisingly it was very fragrant and appetising!

Kung Po fried rice is worth a try too!

By the way, something very IMPORTANT to note about this palce is that their CHOCOLATE BROWNIES is awesome! I tried it (no photo) on a separate occasion and true to what all the food bloggers have claimed, yes, it tastes really good! MUST TRY too!

Do order the Carbonara if you ever dine in this restaurant!

Venicia at Bangsar Puteri Condo

It was a regular saturday and we decided to have a family lunch at Venicia Cafe, inside Bangsar Puteri Condominium (in Bangsar of course).

Sorry, no photos of the interior but the place is a small humble restaurant (more like a cafe for the condo residence). Quite a well-kept secret if you ask me!

Here are some photos I managed to capture before I started eating seriously:

Delicious and generous portion of sambal petai with prawns!
The sweet sour fish fillet was really good too!

Coconut water to quench your thirst on a hot afternoon!

When my family and I come here we normally order the steamed egg too which tastes quite good. Oh, and the pineapple juices are very fresh and thirst quenching as well, must order if you like juices! And yes, people come here and eat crabs and sanghar meen as well but so far we have not tried these. You might wanna give it a try when you visit this place!

The price is very reasonable but I forgot where I placed the receipt. Do not worry, we had around 4 dishes and drinks and it came up to around rm17-20 per person only ^^. But it also depends on what you order because if you order crabs and prawns it would be slightly pricier? Hmmm...

Soup Restaurant at Jaya Shopping Centre

It was a Friday afternoon when SH and I decided to go to the same shopping mall (yes, again!). This time we picked the Soup Restaurant on Level 3 of this new mall.

Nice business card and has that oriental feel to it

The back of the card.
Singapore's first and original purveyor of
Chinatown Heritage Cuisine?
 Oohed..

Even the tissue looks pretty cutesy

Since they had set lunches during weekdays, we thought we gave these a try as it would be less damaging to our pockets. Haha! So I ordered this "claypot chicken+ chinese sausage" set (cannot recall the exact name)+ soup of the day+ vege+ chinese tea. The soup of the day was a clear sweetcorn soup which tasted nourishing and tasty. The claypot chicken rice was not bad at all as the chicken was smooth and the taste of the whole bowl was not overly salty. I actually kind of liked the food there as it seems to be quite healthy with less oil and less salt.

This was my lunch set at only RM16.80++.

A close up of my claypot chicken rice.
SH ordered another set but I did not manage to get a picture of that (oops!) because I was too hungry. Sorry! There is actually a variety of dishes to choose from the menu, and you may even want to order separate dishes of vege, chicken and other meats but I am not sure how they would taste like. Let me know if you have tried it. Hehe!

Overall, I think it is a good place to dine if you are looking for a simple chinese cuisine restaurant with food that is not too salty or oily, and leaves that healthy impression after you have had your meal here.

Coleman Converta Cot

Hi readers! How is it going?

So I have been spending a lot the past weeks, both on food and on "furnitures" lol. This is one of the many thing I bought- a canvas lazy chair by Coleman called the Converta Cot. Fancy name, ain't it? My mum bought this "cot" for our house and I lied on it a coupla times and it was very stable and comfortable to lie on!

See!
Can also use it outdoors like shown in the picture!
NP around RM325
but if you are an AEON member you get 20% off.
So I got this for RM230+.

So, I decided to also get one for my bf's house too*grins ... because:

1. Does not make you sweat when lying on it on a hot day as opposed to lying on a sofa (esp. velvet sofa)
2. Comfy enough for a siesta on a hot afternoon in a house without air-condition
3. Fold-able and light: can bring it anywhere even outdoors for picnic
4. Back rest can be adjusted conveniently
5. Easy to clean just by wiping with a damp cloth
6. Long and wide enough for comfort!

I purchased this comfy cot from:

59100 Kuala Lumpur.
Tel: 603 – 2282 5721 , Fax: 03-22845721

Basically it is a sports shop, wait actually more like a shop selling loads of unthinkable camping equipments ranging from deuter bags, barbecue grills, tents, etc.

P.S. But if you need deuter bags I have another better contact which may be able to give you discount :P

Good night peeps!

Thai Express at Jaya Shopping Centre, PJ

Hello readers ^^

So, it was another regular weekday and we felt a bit adventurous and wanted to break the routine by having something different for lunch. Decided to go to Jaya Shopping Centre again to check some restaurant out since I work nearby.
Thai Express on the 3rd floor of Jaya Shopping Centre

Intended to go to Ah Cheng Laksa (again) but the shop was packed and my other two colleagues did not want to wait.. so good for you readers else I would be blogging about Ah Cheng Laksa again, haha!

So we went to Thai Express this time (in hope that the food wont be all spicy coz as you would know by now I cannot tolerate spicy food well).

Located on Level 3 of this mall, the restaurant is spacious and have enough tables to cater for lunch crowds. Be warned that if you cannot take spicy food just like me, do not attempt to try as their "2-chilli sign" on the menu beside certain dishes is already too hot to handle! There are other dishes with "4 chilli sign" beside them and I cannot imagine how hot are those going to be!

So two of my colleagues ordered this same dish: Minced Basil Chicken rice. This dish has that "2-chillies sign" beside it. It tastes good (I took some to try) but it was too spicy and one of them even stopped eating halfway through! You would be able to appreciate this only if you can take spicy coz personally I think the taste is good :)
This is the spicy minced basil chicken.
Cannot recall the exact price but it was around RM17+.

I, on the other hand was not brave enough but it was a good thing. I ordered this honey chicken fried rice and not only it was not spicy, but it tasted better than I expected. The serving looks small and the chicken looks a bit insufficient, but actually the fried rice is quite filling as there is egg and ham in it ^^ I was happy with my order :)
This honey chicken fried rice tastes awesome!
Was about RM14 if I am not mistaken.

Ah Cheng Laksa, Jaya Shopping Centre

Hi again beautiful people!

It was a busy weekday and I was kind of burnt out after staring at my computer the entire morn. Invited the bf to "grab" lunch at Ah Cheng Laksa, a small (yet efficient and sufficient) shop at the LG level of the newly renovated Jaya Shopping Centre, Section 14, PJ. So far I was not too adventurous and I stuck to Pan Mee
both times I visited this place. I did not mind a bit because it is delicious!

Apparently this shop originated from Alor Setar, Kedah and it is famous for its Asam Laksa. However, since my spicy threshold is fairly low compared to an average Malaysian, I stuck to Pan Mee.   I ordered the lunch set this time, consisting of the main dish and a drink. This cost RM 9.90. If you order ala carte (just the main itself without drink) it would cost you only RM7.90... And they serve really fast!

Blur picture of the tasty  Pan Mee.

Taste-wise, it does taste good especially if you are one who loves chinese food and ajinomoto (MSG). Hehehe. Their menu is quite limited but maybe that's why they serve really fast! Even a take-away will only make you wait the most 15 minutes when there is a reasonable number of customers before you.
I ordered this iced Longan drink.
Very refreshing and thirst-quenching!
Highly recommended.

Nonetheless, they still serve nasi lemak, ... ah, here is the website you check it out yourself. Even its website looks really awesome!

Oh yes, and it is Halal so good for you if you are a Muslim.

Verona Trattoria at Section 17, PJ

It was my birthday in May (yes another throwback lol).
So he reserved a table for two at this quaint Italian restaurant.. Verona Trattoria. If you know where Decanter section 17 is, this restaurant is just behind Decanter.

The signboard does not really stand out but the food they serve is otherwise.

The entrance looks very european

Even the menu looks very classy

This is the interior.
The colour theme is wine red and the chairs were all very plushy and comfy!

They have a lot of nice artworks and paintings mounted up on the walls.
Love the ambience but a bit too awkward coz we were there at 6pm
and it was just the both of us munching away.

Appetiser: Bruschetta. Very very tasty!
I think if i didn't have to sahre I would have finish this whole plate alone.

He ordered carbonara but eventually we shared this.
Not any ordinary carbonara. It really tastes a class above.

Lemon sole with carrot juice. Imho, a bit too sour for my liking
(by now u should know I enjoy sweet stuff better :P).
Nevertheless, fresh fish fillet.

Dessert: Very very delicious sticky date cake with vanilla ice-cream to go with it!

The chef is an Italiano and we really enjoyed the whole dinner experience from the ambience to the food. My personal fav were the bruschetta and the sticky date cake.

Pricewise.. yes, pricey pricey, but no harm giving it a try when a well-deserved celebration for a love one is due  ^^

Good night peeps.
